There is a mix of public and private sector companies in the UK who employ
meteorologists, with additional international organisations. More detail

Public sector
The Met Office
The Met Office is the UK's National
Meteorological Service (NMS) responsible for providing the UK's public weather
service. It employs approximately 1800 people at 60 sites across the word,
although the main headquarters are in Exeter. The headquarters in Exeter house
1400 employees with over half involved in forecasting and observations with
a further 450 involved in research. Other jobs involve sales and marketing,
IT and corporate business support roles. It is the home of the Hadley Centre
for Climate Prediction and Research and is one of ICAO's two World Area Forecast
